I understand that your ImageMate All-in-One USB 3.0 card reader is not detected properly on your Macbook Air. I apologize for the inconvenience this has caused you.
To address the issue for you, I have tested a same card reader on a Macbook Air in our internal lab. Please kindly refer to the following test results:
- Test Platform: Macbook Air 2012, OS x 10.8.2
- Test Products: 2 different SanDisk CF cards and 2 different SanDisk SD cards
- Results: The card reader and the cards are being detected properly on the USB port 2.0 and USB port 3.0 of the Macbook Air without issues.
Concluding from the test results, I find that the issue you are facing with your card reader appears to be an isolated issue. I recommend trying the following troubleshooting steps and see if they help you resolve the issue:
Step 1. Try the solutions listed on the following Knowledge base article:

Step 2. Test your card on other card readers and see if your card work well without issues.
Step 3. Update the operating system of your Macbook Air to the latest version.

- Does the card you used on the card reader work on other card readers without issues?
